17 arrested in drug trafficking sting across Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Law enforcement agencies made 17 arrests across several Mississippi counties in a long-term drug trafficking sting. Officers with Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, United States Marshals Service, Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department, Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department, Quitman County Sheriff’s Department, and Charleston Police Department assisted in the arrests.

HERNANDO, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Silver Alert for 87-year-old Howard Eugene Phipps of Hernando, MS, in DeSoto County. He is described as a white male, five feet eleven inches tall, weighing 118 pounds, with silver hair and green eyes.

Jackson employees now have until October 15 to show proof of vaccination

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - In an executive order, Mayor Antar Lumumba extended the deadline requiring city employees to provide proof of vaccination. The extension also applies to contractors and subcontractors who are paid in whole or in part from funds provided under a city contract.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/NBC News) - The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Dec. 1 in a case that threatens to overturn the decades-old abortion protections established under Roe v. Wade. The case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, takes aim at the Supreme Court precedent barring states from banning abortions prior to a fetus becoming viable, or capable of living outside the womb.
