All Year 5 children from the 15 academies came together to meet Mr Cottrell-Boyce, with all Oldham and Tameside children (Greenhill, Northmoor, Richmond, Westwood, Alt and Greenfield Academies) providing the live audience at Northmoor Academy.

Crisis mental health scheme expands after Oldham success

A scheme to improve care for residents experiencing a mental health crisis has been rolled out in two further boroughs following its success in Oldham. The mental health joint response service, which sees both a clinician from Pennine Care and a police officer jointly attend incidents where the person is experiencing a mental health crisis, is now running in Stockport and Rochdale after initially launching in Oldham in February.

An animal sanctuary which has bases in Tameside and Glossop urgently need volunteers to help out. Lynn Haydon-Williams runs both the Etherow Centre in Broadbottom and Haywill in Glossop. She told us it is really difficult to keep both centres going and they desperately need more volunteers. Lynn said: "To enable Haywill to care for all its animals on both sites we urgently need volunteers to help us out.

Date published: 23 May 2022 Two Greater Manchester Police radio dispatchers have been praised after helping rescue a woman from a motorway bridge near Oldham. Sophie Manley and Terry Boughton, who work in GMP's Tameside district, were on Lord Sheldon Way in Ashton, near the M60, at about 8:40pm on May 13 when they spotted the woman on a bridge in a distressed state and helped her to safety.

A MAN who failed to book coronavirus testing on his return from holiday has been handed a large fine by the courts. Lee Michael Smitth was found to have breached coronavirus travel restrictions at Manchester Airport on February 26 last year. The 51-year-old, of Hampton Court Way in Widnes, was charged with failing to possess a coronavirus testing package when arriving in England.
