MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -The Shelby County Health Department reported 38 new cases and no new deaths Sunday morning. Daily case reports have decreased in recent weeks with the health department reporting more days with less than 100 new cases. SCHD says the weekly rolling average of COVID-19 cases in Shelby County is at 45 as of Sunday.

The LeMoyne-Owen College National Alumni Association will host the inaugural Juneteenth 2021: A Celebration and a Conversation, on the College campus on June 19, 2021. This daylong observance begins at 6:45 a.m. with a bike-a-thon to raise scholarship funds to benefit deserving students. The ride, up to 25 miles, will also include the celebrity riders who will complete the “LeMoyne-Owen Mile,” which circles the campus.
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) - An Indiana State Police trooper is hospitalized with serious injuries after his patrol car was hit from behind. The crash happened on Interstate 74 in Shelby County at 2:48 a.m. ISP Indianapolis says Master Trooper Jeremy Basso was parked with his emergency lights on in a closed lane working behind a construction crew when his patrol car was struck by a Ford Explorer.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - LeMoyne-Owen College National Alumni Association is hosting its first-ever Juneteenth celebration Saturday. This is the first event held at the university since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural event will be a daylong observance with a 25-mile bike-a-thon kicking off in the morning at 6:45 which will include some “celebrity riders” like Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris; former Memphis Mayor Dr. Willie Herenton; Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church Senior Pastor, Dr. J. Lawrence Turner; and Shelby County Commissioner Van D. Turner, Jr.
An Indiana state trooper was seriously injured Friday morning when the trooper's cruiser was struck from behind in a construction zone on Interstate 74 near Shelbyville. According to Sgt. John Perrine of the Indianapolis State Police Post, the trooper, later identified as Master Trooper Jeremy Basso, sustained serious injuries in the crash, but was alert and conscious.
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center received a $1.5 million grant to expand its sexual assault examiner training program for nurses. The three-year grant will fund a program designed to train nurses to address survivors’ needs and provide trauma-informed care. There are only five nurses with this training in West Tennessee.
Violence is plaguing Memphis. 2020 was the deadliest year in Memphis history. Six months into 2021, we’re on pace to shatter that record. The Memphis City Council just approved the budget that will bring $2 million to help fund a program aimed at tackling violence and cutting down on crime in Memphis.
Juneteenth is this Saturday and it’s also, one step closer to becoming a federal holiday after it passed in the Senate Tuesday. Next, the House will have to pass the bill then it will become a federal holiday. But right here in Shelby County and Memphis, it’s already recognized as a holiday.
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The investigation of a deadly weekend crash that killed three people in Shelby County caused delays for drivers today as police continued their investigation. The Shelbyville Police Department accident reconstruction team were back at the scene on interstate 64 reconstructing the Saturday crash that happened on an eastbound stretch of road around 8 p.m. near the 33 mile marker.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office launched a new app to connect you with services offered by county law enforcement. There are tabs in the app that allow you to contact the department or submit a tip about a crime. It allows you to research an area in the county to determine if sex offenders live in that area.
Eligible seniors can get up to $40 in vouchers to exchange for fresh produce at certain vendors at the farmers market. the goal is to help improve the senior's diets with fresh fruit and vegetables while also showing off produce grown by Tennessee farmers. “The way that I benefit is that I'm providing healthy, quality, certified naturally-grown produce without chemicals and pesticides to customers, to the seniors, and I actually like giving them, providing for them the healthy produce,” said Debra Lockard with Lockard’s Produce.
BARTLETT, Tenn. (AP) — Seven members of a Tennessee family have been charged with murder in the starvation death of a 14-year-old boy, authorities said. A mother and six relatives who lived together in a community home arrangement in the Memphis suburb of Bartlett have been indicted on charges of murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect, the Shelby County district attorney's office said Tuesday.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Several family members of a 14-year-old boy who died last year are facing indictments on first-degree felony murder charges. According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, a mother, her son and her six daughters are being charged for murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect of 14-year-old Brandon Gray.
A Memphis man has been indicted after his neighbor’s body was found decomposing in his bedroom closet. According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, James Trigg, 62, was indicted on second-degree and other felony related charges related to the death of Oliver Shanks, 55, who was Trigg’s neighbor at his apartment complex.
