By Phil Coleman Chief Reporter A YOUNG Whitehaven motorist has been given a 36-month ban for drug driving. Matthew Curwen Burgess, 25, of Birley Court, admitted driving on Boxing Day last year while over the limit for cannabis Carlisle’s Rickergate Court heard. His community order includes up to 10 days of rehabilitation.

Bad day all round for Bentley teams

Understrength Bentley suffered a disappointing defeat at bottom club Walthamstow in Hamro Foundation Essex League Division Three. Having decided to bat first, they posted a modest 186 thanks largely to brothers Phil Coleman (65) and Matt Coleman (28). And Walthamstow reached their target with five wickets in hand in the 44th over, as Phil Coleman (3-23) claimed the bowling plaudits for Bentley, who welcome Barking this weekend.

The court heard that Max Nicholas Francis Merrick, 26, was just over twice the legal limit for a cannabis breakdown product when he was caught driving a Peugeot Horizon on the A686 at Hartside, on January 9 this year.

Victoria Sybil Fraser Hanson, 54, of Croftside, had admitted pursuing a course of conduct which amounted harassment of a man in Maryport. This had amounted to her sending the victim numerous letters and emails, Workington's Magistrates Court was told.

Bentley just failed to pull off a victory at Goresbrook in a rain-reduced Hamro Foundation Essex League match at the weekend. Tina Louise Woolaghan, of Fleswick Avenue, was caught with the drug in Whitehaven on April 7, Workington Magistrates Court heard. The defendant, who was not legally represented, must also pay £85 prosecution costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
