Man bailed over Hove firearms incident

A man arrested over a Hove firearms incident has been bailed until next month. Police have increased patrols in the area around First Avenue in Hove after the 61-year-old man was arrested for a firearms offence on Sunday. Officers were called to First Avenue to reports of gunshots being heard and quickly arrested a 61-year-old local man for possession of a firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear and alarm.

The number of new coronavirus cases in Brighton and Hove has fallen again, with the director of public health crediting the effectiveness of the vaccination programme. Brighton and Hove City Council said that in the seven days to today (Wednesday 16 September) the number of new covid-19 cases locally dropped by 18 per cent to 724.

Firefighters from Brighton and Hove are at the scene of a fire in a scrapyard. They were among six fire engines sent to tackle thd blaze by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The fire service was called to the blaze in East Quay, Newhaven, just after 5.45pm today (Tuesday 24 August).

A Brighton and Hove nurse swam the English Channel with the aim of raising £5,000 for a hospital charity. But already has raised almost three times as much from her solo swim to France which took 12 hours and 45 minutes last week. Mrs Shotton, 38, has worked at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, in Brighton, for the past 14 years and wanted to support colleagues and patients there.
