BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Alabama Department of Transportation and the Alabama Road Builders Association want to make sure drivers are aware of changes to a state law to protect the lives of road construction and maintenance workers. Effective, Thursday, July 1, 2021, the fine for ANY moving traffic violation committed in a construction zone where workers are present will result in a $250 fine or double the regular fine, whichever amount is greater.
The number of pardons granted by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles has dropped significantly this year, according to a recent report by the ACLU of Alabama’s Smart Justice campaign. In comparison, during the previous fiscal year, the board granted 79 percent of pardon applications.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A new bill expands the Alabama G.I. Dependent Scholarship Program to include comprehensive transition and postsecondary programs (CTPs) for students with intellectual disabilities. Previously, the scholarship program was only permitted to pay for college-level classes. The program was expanded under House Bill 554, sponsored by Rep. Kerry Rich, R-Guntersville.

A statue of retired boxing legend Evander Holyfield will be unveiled Friday outside of State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Holyfield, 58, was born in Alabama but his family moved to Atlanta in his early years, and he learned to box there. He is the only four-time world heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic medalist.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper, Tenn., for Cody Wayne Fox, 29, of New Hope, Tenn.
