Nigeria Telecommunication network, Airtel has been received outrage from Nigerians, following the sudden shutdown of the network, between 1 am at midnight and noon on Sunday, 11th of August 2019.
The mobile network users were unable to access the internet from the early hours of Sunday until noon.
Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) had in its 2019 first quarter enforcement report bashed Airtel and 9mobile a total fine of N136 million for going against the industry regulations.
NCC said the network providers defaulted different industry regulations such as automatic renewal of data subscription, wrongful disconnection of an interconnect carrier and breaking the Do-Not-Disturb directive.
The commission said Airtel has been found wanting in its quality of service regulation by disconnecting an interconnect carrier, Exchange Telecommunication Limited, without obtaining the necessary approval.
With a total fine of N136 million, Airtel got the largest share with N121m accrued to them by NCC.
Airtel has been the third largest network operator in Nigeria has not yet issued a statement explaining the reason for the shutdown of internet access.
Nigerians on the social media platform, Twitter, have launched an aggressive attack on the mobile network provider, whose shutdown also affected time set on mobile phones.
