Nigeria midfielder grabs Ighalo’s shirt, makes Watford bow

Flying Eagles midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru made his Watford bow when he came off the bench for the Hornets on Tuesday night in their third round League Cup win over League One side Coventry City.

The 19-year old wore jersey No. 24, same jersey number Odion Ighalo wore while at the club, as he was introduced in the 72nd minute in place of Ismaila Sarr.

19-year old Tom Dele-Bashiru wore jersey no 24 as he made his debut for Watford on Tuesday night.

Interestingly, Dele-Bashiru, who joined Watford from Manchester City, only had one senior appearance to his name prior to Tuesday night’s clash – coming in the same competition against Leicester City back in the 2017-2018 season – in the colours of the current Premier League champions.

Dele-Bashiru played for the Flying Eagles earlier this year at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Ukraine.

Making his first start of the season in all competitions, it was Isaac Success that stole the limelight from the teenager after bagging a brace of assists for Watford.

The midfielder refused to renew his contract at Manchester City as he sought for first team football.

Sarr slotted home in the 37th minute after a pinpoint ball from the Super Eagles striker and it became 2-0 ten minutes after the restart when Daryl Janmaa scored after he was set up by the Nigerian.

In the closing minutes, Dele-Bashiru almost made it 4-0 but dragged his effort wide of the post after he was played in by Success.
