Former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane continues to be linked with the Manchester United job thanks to various negative news coming out of the Red Devils camp over the last few weeks concerning coach Jose Mourinho and his players. But club legend, Paul Scholes has warned fans that Zidane is not the man for Manchester United.
Scholes made the warning to fans soon after Zidane’s son sparked more links to United by saying the Frenchman would return to management soon. This is despite the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner helping Madrid to one Spanish league title and three successive UEFA Champions League titles in his two-and-a-half-year stay at the club. But Scholes does not expect the Frenchman to repeat his Real Madrid heroics if is given the manager’s job at Old Trafford.
The Man. United legend told BT Sport, “Is Zidane the right man, though? He went in to Real Madrid, who had a group of ready-made winners already. This is a totally different job; he would have to rebuild confidence with a squad that isn’t quite performing. He went to Real Madrid with so many great players, it was still difficult, but this would be a whole rebuilding job.”
Scholes also weighed in with his opinion on Jose Mourinho and suggested the United manager may be struggling so much this season because his assistant Rui Faria left the club in the summer. “I think the assistant (leaving) is the big one. Rui Faria was with him for a long time, he had been at every club with him. All of a sudden he is gone and apparently, I don’t know, but apparently he was very influential in what he did day to day. He’s lost that and he (Jose Mourinho) does look a bit lonely at times. I think that’s a big part of it.”
What do you make of Scholes’ comments on Zidane? Should Manchester United stick with Mourinho or go for Zidane?
