Nigeria on Monday recorded 242 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,641.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known via its Twitter handle.
NCDC had on Monday, said; “242 new cases of #COVID19: 88-Lagos, 64-Kano, 49-Katsina, 13-Kaduna, 9-Ogun, 6-Gombe, 4-Adamawa, 3-FCT, 1-Ondo, 1-Oyo, 1–Rivers, 1-Zamfara, 1-Borno, 1-Bauchi. Discharged: 902 and Deaths: 150”.
You’ve betrayed Almajirai, PDP tells Buhari, APC
The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the All Progressives Congress of betraying Almajirai and Nigeria’s poor and vulnerable after using them to grab power in 2015.
PDP noted that the same APC derided the then PDP administration which took the initiative towards solving the almajirai problem once and for all.
APC mocks PDP over Ekiti caretaker exco composition
The All Progressives Congress has described the choice of Oyo and Osun state indigenes as Chairman and Secretary of the caretaker committee of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, as an indictment on PDP members in the state.
The APC spokesman, who was reacting to this development alleged that with this action, the PDP national body had handed over its party affairs in the state to outsiders. He based his conclusions on the fact that the caretaker chairman hails from Oyo State, while the secretary hails from Osun State.
The National Working Committee of the PDP had constituted a seven-member caretaker committee to handle the affairs of the party following the expiration of the tenure of the PDP State Executive Committee on May 10 and the inability of the party to conduct council and state congresses owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cross River plans to slash budget, cites gloomy days
The Government of Cross River State is in the process of reviewing the 2020 N1.1tn budget of ‘Olimpotic Meristemasis’ in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The lamented that because there were no more commercial flights into the state, there were no occupants of hotels in the last two months and this had resulted in job losses.
He also cleared the air on the N43bn World Bank State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability grant recently disbursed to 24 states, excluding Cross River and 11 other states.

Five friends gang-rape Kaduna teenager, police accused of cover-up
Five male friends have allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl in the Narayi community of Kaduna State.
While two of the suspects were arrested, the police had allegedly refused to apprehend the others.
It was learnt that the families of the two arrested suspects had been mounting pressure on the victim’s family to drop the case and reportedly offered her mother N15,000 each as damages.
Lockdown: 11 killed, 44 injured in Ogun road crashes
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps has said 11 persons died and 44 others sustained varying degrees of injury in various road crashes in the state during the lockdown between April 4 and May 8, 2020.
41 road crashes recorded within the period involved 15 private cars, 11 private buses, 18 commercial cars, two motorcycles, 12 passenger buses, four medium trucks and five heavy trucks.
Out of the 41 crashes, eight were fatal, 20 were serious, while the remaining 13 were minor.
Agency intercepts truck with 30 Almajirai in Ogun
Operatives of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, on Monday, intercepted an IVECO truck loaded with 30 Hausa youths known as Almajirai.
The truck which was meant to carry only goods, was intercepted at Joju area of Sango in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The Almajirai were packed together with various types of pepper which filled the truck to the brim.
Five LaLiga players test positive for COVID-19
LaLiga has confirmed that five players have tested positive for coronavirus.
All five unnamed players – across the leagues top two divisions – are asymptomatic and in the final phase of the disease but will now go into quarantine and be unable to return to group training until they have had two negative tests.
The Spanish league resumed group training this week with a view to resuming their league in June.
Fury’s assistant coach dismisses Joshua’s capacity
Andy Lee believes unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has shown “huge improvement” but lacks the mental fortitude of Tyson Fury.
Lee works as an assistant coach to Fury alongside head trainer Sugarhill Steward, nephew of Kronk Gym legend Emanuel Steward.
“I think he’s (Joshua) still an improving fighter,” Lee told The Boxing Show on Sky Sports News. “I think he showed huge improvement to beat Andy Ruiz. I think a little bit of inexperience, and I think mentally, he’s not as strong as Tyson. Emmanuel always said, champions are built on the inside.
Covid-19: EPL rapid testing sparks outcry
