Nigeria is safer than foreign countries, Buhari’s social media aide says

In what seemed to be indicting the former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, the social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs Lauretta Onochie said: “some people have become endangered species for the failed promise of breaking up Nigeria.”

Senator Ekweremadu was beaten and publicly humiliated at a socio-cultural event organised by the Ndi-Igbo in Nuremberg, Germany.

In her tweet, Onochie said the attack was evidence that Nigerian authority was capable of providing maximum security for the protection of politicians at home than on foreign soil.

She said, “Another evidence that Nigeria is safer than elsewhere for some people. A few days ago, we heard from Elzakzaky what we already knew, that Nigeria is better than some places.”

The attack had attracted mixed reactions. While the ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), every lawmaker, and other leading voices in the Southeast geopolitical zone have condemned the attack.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which claimed responsibility had issued another stern warning to other powerful politicians in the Southeast geopolitical zone. The zone consists of five states, they include Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu.

Nnamdi Kanu who praised the attackers said, “The courageous act by IPOB at Nürnberg Germany is a polite warning to those engaged in selling our collective interest to Fulani caliphate. Nwodo, Igbo governors are warned.”

Chief Nnia Nwodo is the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He was also expected at the event where Ekweremadu was attacked, but he was not present.

The second day after the attack, he was quoted by Sahara Reporters as saying that some Igbo miscreants were responsible for the insecurity in the region, “local traditional rulers and vigilantes are abetting the killers in the region.
