Former minority leader of the senate, Godswill Akpbio today faced his former chambers as he was screened for a position in President Buhari’s second term cabinet.
The former Akwa Ibom State governor is one of 43 individuals whose names were forwarded to the senate for consideration into ministerial positions.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday forwarded the names – which included 12 returnees and 7 women – to the national assembly for confirmation.
But when it was Akpabio’s turn on Wednesday on the floor of the senate, the house reminded him of the infamous walkout incident of 2015.

During the screening of ministerial nominees in President Buhari first tenure in 2015, the then Minority leader, senator Godswill Akpabio led the entire members of the minority People’s Democratic Party, PDP to a walkout, in bid to scuttle the process when it was time for former Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to be screened.
Amaechi and Akpabio were both governors of Rivers and Akwa Ibom at the same dispensation. Both were thought to had become enemies after the former decamped to the APC during his last days as Rivers governor.
Both politicians have since squashed their beef and as a matter of fact are both current members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Both are also nominated as ministers in President Buhari second term.
