According to reports from PM News, the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has spoken up after he was granted victory by the court on the issue of his Certificate of Return, which INEC had earlier withheld.
The former governor further stated that he has forgiven the returning officer for the Imo West Senatorial election, during the 2019 elections, Prof. Innocent Ibeabuchi.
The former Imo State Governor made this known via a statement which his media aide, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, made available to reporters. The statement was on Friday, made available to newsmen in the Imo State capital Owerri.
The Statement was released within a short period of the ruling by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja which directs the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to issue the Certificate of Return as Senator-elect for the Imo West Senatorial district to Okorocha.
Okorocha further thanked the court for the affirmation of his victory, as he described the Justice who rendered the judgment as an exemplary ambassador of the Nigerian judiciary.
Okorocha further dedicated his victory to the people of Imo West Senatorial and the state at large due to their firm support for him in the case.
He reiterated the fact that he would carry on in playing politics which was devoid of rancour, bitterness and malice.
Abang had in the ruling held that INEC did not have any right under any recognised law in the country to withhold the certificate of return of a candidate who had already been announced and duly returned as the winner of an election by the returning officer.
The Judge had therefore given an order to INEC directing the electoral umpire to issue a certificate of return to Okorocha with immediate effect as the winner of the said election.
