The Senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu, has made a strong case for the women especially as it concerns their relationship with men in the society.
 
According to Daily Post, Tinubu pointed out that men have a role to play in adequately entrenching the rights of women in the society. The lawmaker, who is the wife of the All Progressives Congress, APC, national leader, Bola Tinubu said men have a role to abrogate gender-based violence and ensure equal opportunities for all.

She stated this in a statement she issued in Lagos on Thursday to commemorate the 2019 International Women’s Day, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Tinubu said the menfolk should be enrolled into gender-based discussions and actions to address issues of gender disparity and bias.
 
She said: “I celebrate with Nigerian Women all over the world on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, 2019.

“Beyond the recognition of the struggles and achievements of womenfolk, it is a celebration of womanhood – her strength, resilience, power and doggedness. The commemoration is a pointer to the way forward in the quest for the protection of rights of women and a reminder that we must devise new strategies in the pursuit of gender equity and balance.
 
“Conscripting men into gender-based discussions and actions will enable us address issues of gender disparity, equality in every strata of life, ensure gender balance in government, employment, remuneration of employees and wealth creation.
 
“Thus, I enjoin men to speak up in support of Women. Gender balance will benefit us all and our Nation as a whole.”
 
Tinubu urged Nigerian women to rise up and equip themselves to fill gaps in politics, public office and management.
“This can only be done if we are all ready to make a difference, speak up for worthy causes and impact on our immediate communities, the type of change we wish to see. Thus, I congratulate you all once again and assure you of my unwavering commitment to the empowerment of Nigerian Women,” she said.
In  a similar development, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Bukola Saraki on Friday joined the world in celebrating the International Women’s Day.

Osinbajo took to his verified Twitter page to appreciate and celebrate women for their role in nation-building.

The vice president lauded women for their extraordinary roles played in many successes in Nigeria.

Osinbajo wrote: “Women are incredible. The Nigerian woman is even more extraordinary. Filled with wondrous abilities, Nigerian women are responsible for many of the successes we witness in our communities and nation as a whole.

“Today, we honor you, you rock”, he wrote.

Saraki, on his part, tweeted: “Today, I join the world over, in celebrating the great achievements of women across Nigeria and the world who continue to play transformative roles in various spheres of influence that impact our future.”

The International Women’s Day is marked world over on March 8.
