Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester City face Chelsea on Super Sunday in the Premier League and one of their team-mates, James Maddison, has spoken about the behaviour of one Manchester United star.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the England midfielder said compatriot and Manchester United record signing, Harry Maguire, conducted himself professionally during the period which saw talks of a move from the King Power Stadium to Old Trafford grow stronger.
Those talks eventually resulted in Maguire making a move to Manchester United from Leicester City in an £80 million deal which made him the most expensive defender in the world ahead of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
And for Maddison, Maguire’s attitude while talks between the two clubs for his transfer were ongoing is worth praising. “The way he conducted himself over the summer was fantastic and it’s the perfect example for anyone going through that situation,” he told Sky Sports.
Maddison added: “[Maguire] came into training every day, trained as well as he could, was excellent in pre-season games and his focus was on Leicester. When it came to the time to sign for Manchester United then so be it, but he conducted himself brilliantly.”
Both players could have become team-mates at Old Trafford, seeing as Maddison himself was linked with a move to Manchester United as well, but the 22-year-old midfielder remained at the Foxes and was focused on achieving another goal instead.
“I don’t want to set long-term targets but I want to have a successful season, build on my output last year and I want the team to finish as high as we can,” the Leicester City man said.
He added: “I never hide that it’s my dream to play for England but it’s about playing for Leicester, playing as well as I can for the gaffer and the lads and hopefully the rest will take care of itself.”
Maddison will be hoping to help Leicester City go above Man. United on the Premier League table by getting a repeat outcome from the last trip to Stamford Bridge which saw Jamie Vardy’s goal make the difference in a 1-0 win over the Blues last season.
