Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed the Serie A club have made an official approach for Romelu Lukaku. The two clubs are still in negotiations and there is no agreement in place, but the Belgium forward is believed to be new Inter coach Antonio Conte’s top striker target.
“There’s no news regarding Lukaku,” Ausilio told reporters at Milan Linate airport. “Today was a meeting between two important clubs in Inter and Manchester United. All the players we’re following are targets we’ve agreed with Antonio Conte. We want to satisfy his request within certain financial parameters.”
Ausilio flew back to Milan on Thursday night after spending the day in London in talks with United officials, who Sky Sport Italia reporting that United want €85million for Lukaku. Inter are only understood to be offering €70million in three installments, but Gianluca di Marzio has reported that Inter have an alternative in mind to Lukaku.
The Italian reporter claims Croatia striker Ante Rebic, who starred at the World Cup last summer, is on the radar of Inter if a move for Lukaku falls though. Lukaku, who still has three years left on his contract, missed the club’s open training session in Australia yesterday.
