Super Eagles’ boss Gernot Rohr has admitted that another Nigerian player is set to miss the crucial second game against Guinea at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Nigeria got off to a winning start after dispatching the Swallows of Burundi by a lone goal courtesy of Odion Ighalo who came off the bench to break the deadlock in the second half.
During the game, right full-back Shehu Abdullahi was stretchered off due to an injury. He was replaced by Chidioze Awaziem while he was assessed by the Nigerian medical team.
According to Rohr, another full back, Jamilu Collins who did not feature in the impressive win over the Swallows of Burundi is also expected to miss the game after picking up an injury in training.
The two wing backs of the Super Eagles will be missed when the team lines up on Wednesday knowing that a victory against the National Elephants of Guinea would guarantee their spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Collins who operates as a left back and Abdullahi right back for the Eagles have not been ruled out but are considered big doubts to play against the Guinea match by the Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr. “We still miss the two players Jamilu Collins and Shehu Abdullahi. The two players had scans today. It will be difficult to have them play against Guinea on Wednesday”, Rohr told SportingLife.ng exclusively from Egypt.
We will be back on the training pitch at 10.30am today.
Our build up to the next game in this #TotalAFCON2019 tournament begins.
