Cristiano Ronaldo given a chance to win another title with Portugal on home soil

Cristiano Ronaldo will have the chance to win another title with Portugal on home soil after it was confirmed Portugal will host the final of the Inaugural UEFA Nations League in June next year.  Portugal won League A Group 3 after a scoreless draw with Italy and, in the process, have become the first team to clinch a spot in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.

The reigning European champions entered Saturday’s match with Italy simply needing a result to guarantee their place in the semis with a game remaining. A defeat would not have ended Portugal’s chances of winning the group, though it would have come down to the final day against already-relegated Poland. But that match is now dead rubber, as Portugal are set to contest the semi-finals in June 2019.

As a result, Portugal will now host June’s inaugural UEFA Nations League Finals, pending a formal appointment by the UEFA Executive Committee at their meeting in Dublin on December 3. Portugal were joined by Italy and Poland as nations looking to host and, with Saturday’s result, with the requirement being two stadiums with a net seating capacity of at least 30,000. The original bid proposed Porto’s Estádio do Dragão and the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimaraes as host venues.

All of the other potential semi-finalists will come down to the final match day of the League A groups. In Group 1, the Netherlands visit already-relegated Germany on Monday. Though the Dutch are in second place behind France, a win or draw would see them pass the World Cup champions and make the semi-finals.

In Group 2, Belgium and Switzerland will meet to decide the who finishes top. A result on the road Sunday is all the Red Devils need to make the semi-finals, though they will be without Romelu Lukaku for the contest. Group 4 is the most wide open with all three teams capable of winning. Croatia and England meet at Wembley Stadium on Sunday knowing that the winner of the match will go to the semi-final while the loser will be relegated to League B. However, should the match finish a draw, Spain will be the team that makes their way through to the semi-finals.

AC Milan want €15m off chelsea flop Bakayoko

AC Milan want €15m off chelsea flop Bakayoko

There are reports Milan will only purchase Tiemoue Bakayoko outright from Chelsea for €25m and not the original €40m agreement.

The Rossoneri paid €5m to take him on a one-season loan and have an option to buy in June 2019 for another €35m.

However, Tuttosport suggest his performances have been too poor to warrant such a large spending spree.

Instead, they are demanding a discount of at least €15m on the original price-tag.

Chelsea had wanted €40m in total because that is how much they shelled out to Monaco in the summer of 2017.

So far this term, Bakayoko has been given 12 appearances for Milan between Serie A and the Europa League, but many of them were down to an injury crisis.

Cuadrado Learns from Cristiano

Cuadrado learns from Ronaldo

Juan Cuadrado “learns something new every day” from Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and has no doubts over his future.

The Colombia international sat down with Spanish paper Marca to discuss his career path and experience in Turin, particularly with his new teammate.

Everyone knows how professional Cristiano Ronaldo is. He’s a very special person with a great heart. I learn something new from him every day.

We must all have his hunger to win and to achieve his objectives. He’s a great athlete as well as a great player and everything he’s won is the fruits of his labour.”

With CR7 in the side, Juve have become one of the favourites to win the Champions League.

We have a great squad, but must remain calm, because there is so much competition,” continued Cuadrado.

We’ll keep our feet on the ground, work hard and put ourselves into the hands of God. We work to go as far as possible and battle on all fronts.

(Massimiliano) Allegri asks me to always be ready at any moment and in any role. I will always give my best for the team. Everyone knows my characteristics, as I always played on the right and that is my preferred position, but I’ll play wherever they put me and try to give my all.

I am very happy in Turin. I’ve been in Italy for many years now and am settled. I’m even accustomed to the cold in Turin, even if it doesn’t get really bad until December.

I am happy to be at Juventus and we should reach March still in contention for all our objectives. That is what we’ve set ourselves and what we want to achieve.

Then there’s the Copa America, a great chance for me to achieve something with Colombia too.”

Sani Abacha‘s Daughter Gumsu, Says ‘The Devil Lives In Linda Ikeji’

This may be the end of road for Africa most popular blogger Linda Ikeji as Gumsu Sani Abacha, one of the daughters of late military Head of State, Sani Abacha, and wife to Bayero Fadil, a billionaire businessman from Cameroon has joined in the line of people who wants her to be crucified for theft.

Gumsu clearly stated that she is on the side of Stella, and declared that ‘the devil lives in Linda’ see her post:

And controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo who claimed to have forgiven Linda for “Killing her brand” took to her Instagram page to spill more bitter things about Linda in a post titled

‘Stella Vs Linda.

She wrote:

“ I’m the only NIGERIAN in the Top 10 pioneer bloggers in the world @time magazine 1999. Many of you were babies when this started in 2006. Linda is a blogger, Stella and I are Journalists. There is a big difference. Journalists who blog are called professional bloggers. Mr Aye Dee took Linda’s blog down for 29 hours because of copyright infringement.

I was the first to fight for Linda behind the scenes and told you her blog will return live at midnight and it did plus I tweeted it #LIVE. My Twitter genius @tade355 go find me those tweets. I called my friend Sergei Brim co-founder of Google who linked with Google Nigeria. The beef here is long-standing. At the Nigerian Tribune in 2013, I was told to do a story on Nigeria’s top Female bloggers.

When I compiled the list, Stella declined to be featured if Linda was on it. Next I was Linda’s victim. The 2013 gun story where she diminished my brand. I dropped the Tribune story and instead I wrote a story on how Nigerian bloggers have generally failed because of copying and syndicating each other. Linda also made fun of Stella’s oyinbo babies saying she slept with oil expats and didn’t know the father of her kids when she actually married one and had kids with him before they moved to Germany.

I watched all this play out from 2005-2018. The solution now is Linda, keep your interns trained on photo credits and sourcing info. Someone will take down your blog permanently like what happened to Twitter. That could collapse your empire. Don’t let it happen!! We are web logging and logging the web is not all copy and paste. #WEBLOGGING without the we is what is termed blogging. You must credit and source content from the web meaning other people’s work. Cheers Kemi Olunloyo–Journalist💞💕🇳🇬”

JUST IN: Buhari Blows HOT, Breaks Silence On Igbo Elders’ ‘Endorsement’ Of Atiku

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the purported endorsement of Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party by a group of Igbo Elders.

President Buhari said it did not surprise him since there is a split within the Ohanaeze Igbo socio-cultural group.

Speaking at a meeting with a select group of South-east leaders on Friday, at the State House, Abuja, President Buhari said that the moment the so-called resolution was announced, he got calls from well-meaning leaders from the region asking him to disregard it as it was without any substance.

According to him, “From that moment, I knew that the resolution would not stand, and alas, there it was.”

President Buhari said that his party, the All Progressives Congress, got it right from the very beginning and that the major problems facing the country were mainly on security, corruption and the economy.

“We have done so much. Given the chance, we will do more. Given every chance, we will tell Nigerians where we were in 2015 and what we have achieved up to now.

“We will not get tired of speaking about the golden opportunity Nigeria lost during 16 years of the PDP. We earned money, which we didn’t use,” he said.

“The state of infrastructure we inherited was terrible – no roads, the railway was killed and power. They lacked conscience because anybody with conscience will not do what they did. We will report them to Nigerians. Let anybody lead this country but not the PDP. They were so reckless with the resources of the country,” the President said.

“If you ruin the economy, send your children abroad to get education, won’t they come back?” he asked, adding: “I said it 30 years ago that this is the only country we have. We must stay here and salvage it together.”

The leaders of the delegation, Emeka Ekwuosa, and the National Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Chekwas Okorie, informed President Buhari that the Igbos and South-easterners generally understood the good things he was doing for Nigeria which they said, had unfortunately been misunderstood.

They promised to mobilise support for him in the south-east, saying that his re-election will be a national consensus.

This Is What Guinea Bissau President Told Buhari In Abuja

President Jose Mario Vaz of Guinea Bissau on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the forthcoming general elections in that country.

NAN reports that Legislative elections are expected to be held in Guinea-Bissau in December 2018 or January 2019.

They were scheduled for Nov. 18 following an ECOWAS brokered agreement between President Mário Vaz and the opposition in April but the electoral census will not be completed until November 20.

Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, President Mario Vaz said it is duty bound on his part to brief President Buhari, who is current chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), on development developments in Guinea Bissau.

Mario Vaz, who spoke in French, said he also used the opportunity to seek for advice from the Nigerian leader, whom he described as his senior brother.

“I had the opportunity to brief him about the situation in Guinea Bissau – the ongoing Voters’ registration process going on in Guinea Bissau.

“As you may be aware of and international community may be aware of, Guinea Bissau was scheduled to hold elections on November 18.

“But we have come to the conclusion that it won’t be possible, and that is the reason why I came to see my older brother so that I can seek his advice and brief him about the situation,” he said.

President Mario Vaz, therefore, described the outcome of his meeting with President Buhari as very fruitful and he would be going back home very much encouraged.

He pledged to adhere to all the advices given to him by the president, adding that he would also apply fully all the suggestions made during the meeting.

Mario Vaz, who has since left for Guinea Bissau, thanked President Buhari and the Nigerian government for their support and assistance to his country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the federal government recently approved 500,000 dollars electoral kits and number of vehicles to support the conduct of legislative election in Guinea Bissau.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, confirmed this development in October when Jose Filho, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Guinea Bissau, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

“In addition, Mr President has approved the supply of vehicles with about 500,000 dollars,” he said.

Onyeama said the donations were to help Guinea Bissau get out of what had been “a very difficult situation for a number of years.”

APC alleged that Atiku’s wealth a mirage!

While the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the  APC, Yekini Nabena, said the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar were at a crossroads on how to source funds for the 2019 electioneering campaign, PDP warned the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to stop the “fixation” on its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Nabena, who had earlier asked security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Dubai meeting of Atiku and the PDP, had also accused them of trying to use the said meeting to launder funds for the elections.

However, in apparent reaction to the purported search of Atiku’s aircraft by security operatives on his arrival from Dubai, Nabena noted that due to the stringent measures put in place by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the opposition party was now in a dilemma on how to source funds to run the Atiku Presidential Campaign.

Nabena in the statement alleged that available information from the PDP’s recent strategy meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, indicated that there was a major setback as the hope of sourcing campaign funds from public coffers was dashed.

APC on Atiku ‘s campaign finances He said: “The Presidential candidate expects the party to provide funds for his campaign. This is the Buhari Era, an era of strict accountability and transparency in the use and application of public funds and not the Jonathan Era in 2015 when the national treasury was opened to PDP leaders to prosecute the Presidential campaign.

“The party leaders are, therefore, in serious difficulty and dilemma on how to source funds to run the Atiku Presidential Campaign. Some financiers of the party expect that the candidate, having bought the ticket with millions of dollars should have the financial capacity to run his campaign. ‘’With the candidate’s expectation that it is the party that will fund his campaign, it is now clear that they are at a crossroads and the chickens have come home to roost.

“The anti-corruption agencies should gird their loins and ensure that all sources of campaign funds by political parties are closely monitored and recover the funds looted during the Jonathan era. Such recovered funds should be applied for the benefit of the poor masses who were denied democracy dividends during the 16 years misrule of the PDP.

“It is now clear to the members of the PDP who were deceived into believing that their presidential candidate is a man of stupendous wealth that it is all a mirage, a 419 packaging and that they entered a ‘one chance’ bus. “As we approach February 2019 when General Elections will be held in Nigeria, the electorate are becoming more conscious and aware of the deceitful nature of their so-called leaders.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP is nationally known as a man of immense wealth. ‘’Apart from his being a retired officer of the Department of Customs and Excise not above the rank of Deputy Director, and not known to have been an exceptionally successful businessman, his claims to stupendous wealth and sources are questionable and lack credibility.

“During the ‘dollar rain’ at the Port Harcourt Convention of the Party, he outspent all the other aspirants and easily clinched the party’s Presidential ticket. Having emerged without the support of the ‘Governor-General’ of the party, who had earlier produced the party’s National Chairman and ordered the party to hold its convention in Port Harcourt, Alhaji Atiku is now on ‘his own’ in bankrolling his campaign.

“The Nigerian Electorate has a better alternative- to stick to the clean, honest and transparent leadership of Muhammadu Buhari, who has done so much to ensure better future for them after the 16 years misrule of the PDP”, he added. Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, warned the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to stop the “fixation” on its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The party was reacting to a statement made by the party wherein it said the PDP and Atiku were broke, lacking the resources to fund its campaign. But reacting on behalf of the party, PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Nigerians had resolved to vote out the APC in 2019, adding that the ruling party was becoming jittery by the day over its fear of defeat at the polls. He said: “APC is jittery but what is even their business about the state of our finances. 2019 is not about who has more money but about the need to rescue Nigeria.

“Having seen through their lies, Nigerians have resolved to vote out the incompetent and clueless Buhari. They can say whatever they like but our advice to them is that they should start packing their bags because their time is up. “They have nothing to offer but Nigerians want Atiku to come and heal our land and Insha Allah, Atiku will send Buhari home in 2019.”

51 Countries in support of new rules for Cybersecurity

Fifty-one states, including all EU members, have pledged their support for a new international agreement to set standards on cyberweapons and the use of the internet, the French government said Monday. The states have signed up to a so-called “Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace”, an attempt to kickstart stalled global negotiations. China, Russia and the United States did not sign the pledge, reflecting their resistance to setting standards for cyberweapons which are at the cutting edge of modern warfare.

“We need norms to avoid a war in cyberspace which would be catastrophic,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Monday.

Campaigners have called for a “Digital Geneva Convention”, a reference to the Geneva conventions that set standards for the conduct of wars.

They want states to commit to not attacking infrastructure which is depended upon by civilians during wartime, for example.

A new international norm would also help define a state-backed cyberattack and when a state could be justified in retaliating. Dozens of countries are thought to have developed offensive cyberweapons. “We need to move these norms forward,” Microsoft president Brad Smith said on Monday at the Paris Peace Forum, being held to mark the centenary of the end of World War I. In a presentation at the forum, Smith portrayed cyberweapons as having the potential to spark another mass conflict.

– Global ‘wake-up call’ –

He said 2017 was a “wake-up call for the world” because of the WannaCry and NotPetya attacks. WannaCry crippled many hospitals in Britain and affected 150 countries in 24 hours. It is thought to have been deployed from North Korea. Many experts attribute NotPetya, which hit banking, power and business computing systems across Ukraine, to Russia.

But security officials note that those two attacks appear to be based on code stolen from the US National Security Agency, which leads the country’s cyber-defences. “In a world where everything is being connected, anything can be affected, which is why we need to come together,” Smith added. The text of the Paris call will be presented by French President Emmanuel Macron as he opens UNESCO’s Internet Governance Forum in Paris on Monday. It has also been signed by 93 civil society groups and 218 companies, Le Drian said. “To respect people’s rights and protect them online as they do in the physical world, states must work together, but also collaborate with private-sector partners, the world of research and civil society,” according to the text. Russia has been accused by Western countries of cyber-meddling over the last few years, while huge data breaches online have fuelled calls for new rules governing online behaviour.
