Popular Nigerian singer Burna boy turns a year older today, this is coming 2 days after his outstanding performance at the BBNaija 2019 opening ceremony and few days after winning the 2019 BET Awards.
It would be recalled that Burna Boy was announced as the winner of the Best International Act award at the 2019 BET Awards. Burna Boy who is also the first brand ambassador for National Premium Lager Brand, Star, was nominated alongside other talented artistes Teni Makanaki, Mr. Eazi and other international acts in the category.
The award was received by Burna Boy’s mum and manager, Bose Ogulu, who gave an ovation speech, said the message from Burna Boy to every black person is to;
“remember you were Africans before you became anything else”.
With all the success Burna Boy has recently recorded and his strides with Star Lager Beer, a clearly excited Burna Boy took to instastory to celebrate the win.
In 2017, the ‘Dangote’ crooner did not hit any marijuana joint to celebrate his 26th birthday, instead, he had a nice time with his family. Burna boy got a popcorn cake from his family members. His mom, dad and baby sister, as well as other family members, came to celebrate with the Reggae dancehall star who repeatedly announced to his fans that 26 is not his football age. Damini Ogulu (born 2 July 1991), known professionally as Burna Boy, is a Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter.
He rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing the lead single “Like to Party” from his debut studio album, L.I.F.E. Aristokrat Records released Burna Boy’s debut studio album L.I.F.E on August 12, 2013. It serves as the follow-up to his second mixtape, Burn Identity (2011). L.I.F.E sold 40,000 copies on the first day of its release.
Aristokrat Records later sold the album’s marketing rights to Uba Pacific for ₦10 million. The release of the album was preceded by five singles: “Like to Party”, “Tonight”, “Always Love You”, “Run My Race” and “Yawa Dey”.
Burna Boy was announced as one of Spotify’s New Afro Hub Takeover Artist. The announcement coincided with him being named YouTube’s Artist on the Rise for 3 months. Also won four awards at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, including African Artiste of the Year, Listener’s Choice and Best Male MVP.
