Simi To Make Her Acting Debut In Kunle Afolayan’s Upcoming Film, ‘Mokalik’

Top singer, Simi is set to make her acting debut as she has just signed a contract to play a role whose character holds a significant part in the movie plot.

Nigerian singing sensation, Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, who has released many hit singles such as ‘Jamb Question’ and ‘Smile’, has ventured into the movie industry as she is set to star in a new Nollywood film.

Afolayan says ‘Mokalik’ is a slight departure from the flicks he had shot in the past, adding that there will be two versions of the film; one for the Nigerian market – the other for the international market.

Screen-played by Tunde Babalola, inspiration for the story, according to the filmmaker came during his constant visit to the mechanic workshop where he refurbished his much publicised Vintage car (Thunderbird Ford 1965) recently, while the film title, a Yoruba corrupt pronunciation of mechanic is from a scene in one of his late father (Ade Love)’s classic, ‘Taxi Driver’.

“Visiting the mechanic workshop after about 15 years opened my eyes to a lot of things that I believe the world should know about our local auto car repairs industry,” he said.

Simi will be playing Simi; daughter of a Buka (cafeteria)owner whose character holds a significant part in the movie plot.

In the all-Yoruba cast movie, Simi will be acting alongside notable actors like Femi Adebayo, Ayo Adesanya, Faithia Williams, Lateef Oladimeji and comic actors like Wale Akorede (Okunu), Ayo Ogunshina (Papa Lolo) and Dayo Akinpelu (Alabi Yellow). Ire

The singer took to her Instagram and announced that she has accepted a role in Kunle Afolayan’s upcoming movie titled ‘Mokalik’. She also share a video of herself with the talented movie maker.
Meanwhile, the multi award-winning producer who was also excited for the prospect of working with the singer, revealed that the contract was signed and sealed on Sunday, August 26.

On his Instagram post, he revealed that Simi said yes after going through the script for week. The singer had also expressed in her post that the script is one she is happy to partake in. It was gathered that the script is about an 11-year-old who spends the day as a lowly apprentice at a mechanic workshop in order to view life from the other side of the tracks.

‘Mokalik’, an all-Yoruba cast movie will star Simi, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Faithia Balogun Williams, Wale Akorede Okunnu, Alabi Yellow (Dayo Akinpelue) and Papi Lolo (Ayo Ogunshina). The movie is Nollywood’s first single-location shoot.
