Yahoo Yahoo Now A Legal Business In Nigeria? DBanj, RuggedMan, Simi, Others Reveals The Shocking Truth About Internet Fraudster And Many Record Label Brand

Yahoo Yahoo a.k.a Internet fraud is a crime.  Are we clear on that? It is a crime punishable by the law.  Yet, it is very common in Nigeria. Not just common, it is now being celebrated and glorified as a way to success.

The Yahoo boys have gotten to a point where they are now idolized by their peers.  Like every other entertainment industry in the world, illegal money has been used to fund a lot of artists in the entertainment scene.

But in Nigeria’s case, it’s a lot.  Thanks to Yahoo Yahoo boys, Nigerians have gained a reputation of being fraudsters and this affects hardworking/legitimate Nigerian owned businesses.

During the 2018 edition of Social Media Week Lagos, D’banj who was a panelist for a session called “Changing The Game: Artists As Leaders” stated that most of the new generation record labels are run by yahoo boys who knew absolutely nothing about the music business. Absolutely nothing and he was right.

Yahoo boys mostly got into the music game just to be able to brag about owning a record label and having their names being mentioned in the songs of their artists.

They had no interest in the music business at all neither did they even bother to learn the rudiments of the industry. For the most part, they made the industry worse. Payola has always existed but it became worse when yahoo boys came into the game.

Music video directors noticed that yahoo boys had money to throw away and they wanted in on the cash parade so music videos also became ridiculously expensive. I could go on and on but you get the message. Yahoo boys have brought more problems to the music industry.

Recently, Simi stirred up some trouble when she condemned Yahoo boys recently. Her statement drew a reaction from Naira Marley and his reaction drew yet another reaction from Rugged Man. Nigerians have 3 major views when it comes to Yahoo Yahoo and they are represented in the views of Simi, Naira Marley and Rugged man.

View 1: Yahoo Yahoo is bad. No excuses.

Simi took a stance against yahoo boys recently. She went as far as saying that they should not listen to her music or come for her shows. This didn’t sit well with yahoo boys and benefactors of Internet fraud who went on to troll and insult her on social media. There are a lot of Nigerians who share this view. They call out Yahoo Yahoo/internet fraud in all its forms and do not excuse it any way.

View 2: I benefit from Yahoo so I will find any reason to excuse it no matter how silly it may seem

Naira Marley has a reason for supporting yahoo yahoo and it’s a simple one. Slavery. His argument was that because of how white people enslaved our ancestors, yahoo yahoo should be tolerated as some sort of reparations for slavery.

It’s either Naira Marley is actually dumb enough to believe that slavery is a good enough excuse for Yahoo Yahoo or just like a lot of people, he’s a benefactor of internet fraud and he will use whatever reason (no matter how silly it may seem) to validate yahoo yahoo.

View 3: Yahoo Yahoo is bad but I don’t judge the people that engage in it

Nigerian morality has 2 sides.

Side A: It is bad. Don’t do it.

Side B: Yes it is bad but who are you to judge a.k.a “Nobody holy pass”. Nigerians conveniently shift the goalpost to either side when it suits them. For Rugged man, Yahoo Yahoo is bad but he doesn’t judge those who engage in it.

Check out his response to Naira Marley “My brother, I love your music and all but you need to get one thing clear and do not mislead people. Especially kids on social media. You can do Yahoo all you want, but do not disrespect the part of the black race that were sold into slavery by trying to use it to justify cybercrime. The people who bought slaves died ages ago. If you want to fight that, then start a cause/movement against the British and America.

Whoever owned slaves, but stealing the hard earned money of other people isn’t about slavery. You say the Nigerian leaders are looting trillions outta this country, why aren’t you hacking their accounts and giving back to the people Robin Hood style? I swear I go hail you for that one. But bro respect the black race and don’t try to use it to justify cybercrime. E no follow. If it wasn’t a crime, police won’t be busting boys for it.

Thousands of qualified Nigerians can’t get jobs outside Nigeria because of “yahoo”. Their families are suffering. Young Nigerians are suspect everywhere they go because of “yahoo”. If you want to do it, enjoy. Nobody is stopping you. But remember that if you do the crime, if you are caught you do the time.

I got friends that are into it, I don’t judge.  I got friends who are in jail as we speak for doing it, I don’t judge.

All man dey hustle. God bless all our hustles and let’s hold our leaders accountable” Rugged man is clearly not pleased with how Naira Marley has used slavery to make excuses for internet fraud. He also makes it clear to him that Yahoo Yahoo is a crime and anyone who commits the crime will surely do the time when the long arm of the law catches up with such fellow.

Sounds all good right? Wrong. Pay attention to the highlighted parts of his response. It shows how the Nigerian society has recognized internet fraud to be a crime but somehow does not judge those who are involved it because “nobody holy pass”.

When it comes to crying out against corrupt politicians or SARS killing innocent Nigerians, Nigerians quickly switch to side A of the morality coin and call it bad but when it comes to yahoo yahoo, we return to side B and become less judgemental.

Yahoo Yahoo is a crime punishable by law. It is not something that we should be less judgemental about or turn a blind eye to because we have friends or know people who engage in it. It should be called out and spoken against just like corrupt politicians and trigger-happy SARS officials.
