Marshall announces Liberal mobile office hours

Special to the Leader & Times The office of U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., will have mobile office hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug, 23, at Liberal Memorial Library. The public is invited to meet with a staff member from Senator Marshall’s office to discuss any issues with federal agencies, federal programs or to inquire about federal resources.

A press release from the Liberal Police Department said shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 800 block of North Country Estates Road for a report of a head-on injury accident.

On Monday, August 15th at approximately 1:51 pm, Officers of the Liberal Police department, responded to the 800 block of N. Country Estates for a report of an injury accident. A 45-year-old female reports she was northbound in her 2017 Toyota Tundra, when a 71-year-old male driving his 2016 F-150 south bound, went left of center and struck her pickup.

City Commission Approves Support for EpicTouch Fiber Project

The Liberal City Commission met in a Special Meeting on Monday afternoon at 4:00. The commissioners heard from EpicTouch concerning a new grant that they are eligible for to provide fiber, high speed broadband to 95% of the structures in Liberal. After the presentation and discussion amongst the Commissioners, the Commission voted unanimously to support the project and pledged $50,000 towards the project.

Dr. Rhiannon Radcliff and her staff recently celebrated the first anniversary of taking over the practice at 2136 N. Kansas Ave. Radcliff, who had previously worked for Vision Source for five years, sees patients for many vision problems, including eye exams, diabetes, glaucoma and other eye diseases, as well as for contacts and glasses.

Thursday traffic stop ends with drug arrest

ROBERT PIERCE • Leader & Times Two youth were arrested early Thursday morning on drug charges following a traffic stop in Liberal. A release from the Liberal Police Department said shortly after midnight Thursday, Officer Prater stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of West Pancake Boulevard. “During the traffic stop, Officer Prater developed probable cause of additional criminal activity relating to illegal narcotics,” the release said.

He was born at Epworth Hospital in Liberal, KS on December 19, 1960, the son of William R. “Bill” Atkinson and Meredith Lynn (Burton) Atkinson. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1979 and from the University of Kansas in 1984 with degrees in Environmental Design and Architecture.

Drug Arrest Made in Liberal

On Thursday August 11th at approximately 12:05pm, Officer Prater of the Liberal Police Department, stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of West Pancake Boulevard. During the traffic stop, Officer Prater developed probable cause of additional criminal activity related to illegal narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed an undetermined amount of illegal narcotics.

Traffic changes are scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 15, along U.S. 83 from the Oklahoma/Kansas state line north of the U.S. 83/K-51 junction in Seward County U.S. 83 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the project area. Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes as one-lane traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the work zone.

The City Commission approved the submittal of the 2022 Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program Rehabilitation Grant Application to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka. The application will be no more than $250,000.00 with the City’s match of no more than $62,500.00.
