In the season debut for Saluki Track and Field, four different Salukis came up with wins this past Saturday over in Chicago, as well as breaking a few school records Freshman Xavier Preston and junior Iaunia Pointer each broke school records in their respective events. Preston hit a 6.71 time in the men’s 60m dash to make the new record in school history for the event and Pointer’s time of 38.36 in the 300m also set a new school record for the event.

Former Major League Baseball player Frank Thomas passed away on Monday in his hometown of Pittsburgh. No cause of death was given. He was 93. Thomas was a three-time All-Star with the Pittsburgh Pirates, having played 16 seasons in the big leagues from 1951 to 1966.

Fourth man arrested in fatal Hammond shootout: records

Jan. 16—Criminal charges were recently unsealed against a fourth man in connection with a deadly Hammond shootout. Marcus Mathis, 27, of Griffith, was charged Nov. 18 with murder and three counts of attempted murder. The Sept. 25 shooting outside Serenity Lounge in Hammond killed Brian Leonard, 29, of Chicago, and wounded three others.
