Momentum is with White Sox after walk-off win over Twins

When Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa summoned Sheets for a hug, however, the 6-foot-5 first baseman/right fielder was especially humbled.

Twins, White Sox reset after rainout delays start of series

The scheduled opener of a four-game series between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox was postponed Monday due to steady rain throughout the day in the Windy City. The postponement of the game, which will be made up as part of a July 19 doubleheader, probably was good news for the hosts. The extra day off should be beneficial for reigning American League MVP Jose Abreu, who left Game 1 of Chicago's Sunday doubleheader against the visiting Seattle Mariners after taking a 96 mph sinker by JT Chargois off the side of the left knee.

Sometimes, all it takes is a bloop single. The Chicago White Sox are hoping that's the case with reigning American League MVP Jose Abreu. Abreu, hitting just .173 with one home run and seven RBIs in June, got the lone hit before Saturday afternoon's game with the visiting Seattle Mariners was suspended in the middle of the third inning of a scoreless tie.

Adam Eaton — the latest Chicago White Sox outfielder to be sidelined — is placed on the 10-day injured list with hopes to ‘just get him well’

The Chicago White Sox have been hit hard with outfield injuries this season. Adam Eaton became the latest to be sidelined when the Sox on Thursday placed the starting right fielder on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. The move is retroactive to Tuesday. “He’s dealt with it, he’s gone out there like a good competitor and it takes away from his game,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said before Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

GM Rick Hahn says it’s too early to decide whether the Chicago White Sox will be buyers before the trade deadline: ‘Is the squeeze going to be worth it?’

The White Sox might not need to do any heavy lifting by the trade deadline with Eloy Jiménez on the comeback trail and only one team to beat in the American League Central. But with the Sox going to 100% capacity at Guaranteed Rate Field on their next homestand and the most interest in the team in more than a decade, they probably owe it to fans to get some help to deal with the rash of injuries to key players.

Monday was an off day and manager Tony La Russa sat Abreu out of Sunday's 3-0 win over the Tigers. "Part of it was physical, mostly mental, especially since he plays at such a high level," La Russa said.
