Retired Rotherham school teacher conquers gruelling 95-mile trail for hospital charity

A retired teacher has conquered one of the UK’s most challenging long distance trail, and raised £1,000 for Rotherham Hospital. Carol Makin, 76, tackled the 96-mile West Highland Way in June, and raised the cash for Rotherham Hospital’s Purple Butterfly Appeal, which funds end of life care.

Record numbers at hospital’s A&E

ROTHERHAM’S A&E department saw record numbers of patients in a single day last month — twice. A total of 360 people attended Rotherham Hospital’s Urgent and Emergency Care Centre on both June 7 and 14. Hospital chief executive Dr Richard Jenkins said in a report to the board of directors that A&E departments in neighbouring areas were also seeing rising numbers.

FREE parking at Rotherham Hospital is being scrapped next week as charges are reintroduced for patients and visitors after 16 months. The charges, which were suspended in March last year, will apply to all the public car parks on the hospital site on Moorgate Road from Monday.
