Richmondshire gardeners are once again being urged to get ready for the annual summer competition to find the best blooms in the district. Next month judges will begin mystery shopping gardens in all Richmondshire District Council owned homes as they look for the best window boxes, tubs, baskets, borders and vegetable patches.
Waste and recycling collections in Richmondshire will be affected by the Easter holidays. Collections continue to run as normal – which means there are no changes next week (week beginning April 11), with a normal service on Good Friday. However, the following week – week beginning April 18 – will see all collections running one day late, including on Friday April 22 when they will take place on Saturday, April 23.
Waste collections have been disrupted in Wensleydale today. Richmondshire District Council said the problem was caused by “unprecedented staff shortages”. A council spokesperson said: “It is unlikely that we will complete all the recycling rounds in some of the outlying areas of upper Wensleydale today.
Council officials say refuse collections will take place in Colburn as normal – weather permitting. However, as a result of to the weather conditions and the forecasts, all recycling collections have been cancelled today so that staff can be deployed to undertake refuse collections before the weather closes in.
Richmondshire District Council, which last year faced questions after pumping more than a third of its annual council tax income into swimming pool improvements, looks set to freeze its council tax demand for the coming year to help residents who are struggling financially. A meeting of the authority’s corporate board saw members unanimously recommend to a full meeting of the authority on Tuesday that its bills for the average Band D household remain at £225 for the final year before North Yorkshire Council is launched.
Refuse and recycling collection dates across Richmondshire are revised due to the Christmas and New Year holidays. There are no collections on Monday, December 27 or January 3 which means they will roll forward. All collections will be back to normal from Monday, January 17.
