World-beating Paralympian opens £180k arena for High Peak's disabled riders

Multi-medal winning Paralympic dressage rider Sir Lee Pearson CBE notched up yet another award to add to his impressive tally when he visited Buxton to officially open a £180,000 covered arena for disabled riders. For Staffordshire Moorlands-based Lee – a Paralympic Gold medallist on 14 occasions – was presented with a commemorative medal to mark the special event, watched by riders, volunteers, supporters and sponsors of Helen Atkin Group Buxton Riding for the Disabled (RDA) in the Helen Atkin Building* at Buxton Riding School.

Gordon’s Samantha Kinghorn sped her way to two personal best times at a British Wheelchair Athletic Association grand prix at Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire at the weekend. The Paralympian clocked 16.11 for 100m and 28.50 for 200m, both those times being faster than the current T53 world records for those distances.

A world-beating Paralympian visited Buxton to officially open a new £180,000 equestrian arena built to serve disabled riders from across the High Peak. The 14-time gold medal winner Sir Lee Pearson, from Staffordshire Moorlands, was presented with another trinket for his trophy cabinet as local rider Lindsay Green presented him with a commemorative medal to mark the opening of the Helen Atkin Building at Buxton Riding School, Fern Road, on Saturday, April 23.
