Full list of the Scarborough and Whitby roads where surface dressing works will be carried out

Hundreds of miles of roads in North Yorkshire are to be treated to extend its life by up to ten years. North Yorkshire County Council’s surface dressing programme is now under way and continues into the summer. Roads around Scarborough and Whitby are scheduled to be done in June.

New plans to cut congestion on Harrogate's Oatlands Drive won't be ready until autumn

North Yorkshire County Council scrapped plans to make the street one-way traffic in March 2020 before launching a feasibility study for the wider area. However, there have been several delays and the council has yet to go out to consultation. A council spokesperson said the consultation is "still being finalised" and "likely to start soon after" next weekend.

The politician charged with bolstering North Yorkshire’s communities has spoken of his pride that 90 per cent of refugee families from war-torn countries such as Syria have remained in the county as the final family in a programme to help Afghan people is settled this month. North Yorkshire County Council’s executive member for stronger communities, Councillor David Chance, said the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy scheme, which was announced in 2020, had seen 122 people, or 25 families, many of whom provided support to the UK’s Armed Forces in the war-torn county, permanently resettled in North Yorkshire.
