25 years ago – 1997 Penrith After 47 Good Fridays working on the production of hot cross buns, Penrith man Melville Clementson deserves the rest that next week will bring. Mr. Clementson retires from bakers Birkett’s on Thursday — a move he planned specially to give him his first Good Friday off work since 1950.

Weather scuppers women's football but Silsden still shine

THE weather and cup commitments limited local League action in last weekend’s women’s football programme. Silsden welcomed Wetherby Athletic to Skipton Road for a West Riding County Premier Division match. Player of the match Nicola Frankland scored twice as Silsden recorded a 2–1 win, their second of the season.
