Sharon Dowey wants more investment in order to protect the Scots dialect. An Ayrshire MSP says the Scots language could "vanish for good" unless more is spent on its protection. It comes as new research classed the native tongue as officially at risk of extinction. Scots is one of 12 UK and European languages classed as under threat by language-learning app Busuu.

Scotland's new culture secretary has pledged that live events will be allowed to return as soon as possible and insisted the government is "acutely aware" of the impact of controversial curbs on the performing arts. Angus Robertson suggested restrictions - which are currently much tighter for venues than bars or restaurants in Scotland - would be eased in time to help Edinburgh's festivals bounce back this summer.

There’s only one thing that can match the birth of your first child and that is the arrival of your second. My daughter Flora made a grand appearance at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh last Friday nearly two years after her sister Saoirse. Both mother and baby are doing great and huge thanks go to Dr Bridget Smyth, her obstetrics colleagues and everyone at the maternity unit.

Everything has been a bit of a whirlwind. Holyrood has backed the appointment of Nicola Sturgeon’s new Cabinet, despite an attempt by the Liberal Democrats to remove Angus Robertson. The Scottish Parliament gave its seal of approval to the new Government ministers in a vote on Thursday. The Lib Dems objected to Mr Robertson being appointed as a minister, saying they do not support the role of Constitution Secretary.
