Mirabai Chanu: Weightlifter is 2021 BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award for 2021, following a public vote. The Olympic silver medallist beat golfer Aditi Ashok, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, Para-shooter Avani Lekhara, and badminton player PV Sindhu to the award. Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at an Olympic Games, when she finished second in the 49kg category in Tokyo.
BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year nominees revealed
The nominees for the third edition of BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year have been announced. The five contenders are golfer Aditi Ashok, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, Para-shooter Avani Lekhara and badminton player PV Sindhu. The award honours the contributions of Indian sportswomen in 2021, and celebrates the achievements of all women involved in sport in the country.

Lydia Ko shoots 63 to hold first-round lead at Gainbridge LPGA
Lydia Ko carded nine birdies during a bogey-free first round on Thursday and holds the lead at 9-under 63 after one turn of the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Raton, Fla. The New Zealander holds a two-shot lead over American Danielle Kang, who had eight birdies and one bogey at Boca Rio Golf Club.
