Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic has paid tribute to Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric after he won the Ballon d’Or last night. The Croatia captain broke the 10 year duopoly enjoyed by Ex-Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona Rival Lionel Messi to be crowned the best player in the world.
He was handed the gong ahead of Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed to attend the Paris ceremony, and city rivals Griezmann who came second and third in the listings respectively.
Grabar-Kitarovic stated: “On behalf of Croatia and on my own behalf, once again I wanted to thank you and thank all the Croatian national team for this great success. You have become a model and inspiration for our children and all young people in Croatia. You are now among the best, and you are in the hearts of all Croats. Thank you again from Croatia, which is so proud of you.”
