Xenophobia: House Speaker Gbajabiamila Cuts Short Foreign Trip To Address Killings

The speaker of the House of representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has announced he will be cutting short his trip to Tanzania, where he’s attending the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, to return to Nigeria, in order to address the issue of xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa.

The new media have been awash in the last 48 hours about a renewed spate of attacks on foreigners -especially Nigerians – who the locals claim were taking over their land.

Reacting on Tuesday, the House Speaker announced he was leaving Tanzania today, ahead of scheduled, to consider cutting short the recess house members are currently on, and reconvening for one day to address the attacks.

“Will be cutting short my trip to Tanzania for the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference @CPA_Secretariat and will be leaving today, for the leadership of the @HouseNGR to consider cutting short the recess and reconvening for one day to address the killings of Nigerians in SA” He said.
