Social media was filled with rage after it was reported that family members of a Divisional Police Officer in Delta State allegedly paid N3million for the senior policeman to regain his freedom from his abductors.

According to The Punch, the victim’s name was given as Mr Okoro in charge of Galilee Police Station, Ute-Ogbeje community in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Okoro was allegedly kidnapped along Benin-Asaba Expressway August 9 between Onicha-Ugbo and Issele-Uku.

The Delta State Police Commissioner Mr Adeyinka Adeleke has denied the report, saying police doesn’t support payment of ransom.

Reacting on Twitter, Emeka Nnodim alleged that the senior police officer might have been kidnapped by his own colleagues.

“Where did he get the 3m paid for ransom? This shows he was kidnapped by his members for shortchanging them in booty sharing.”

Another user, Chris Eribo described the incident as pathetic, “So ironic and pathetic… no wonder someone few months ago said that Nigeria only needs God to secure her borders, next level.”
