Miyetti Allah Closes Livestock Market In Enugu Over Security Concerns

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Enugu Chapter, as well as the Northern Leaders, Livestock and Perishable Goods Market, announced closure of the livestock and perishable goods market in the state for a period of two days.

What this means is that they will not be available for business on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

The announcement was made at a press briefing which the leaders of both bodies addressed jointly in Enugu on Saturday.

According to reports from Daily Post, this announcement is coming based on the security challenges in Enugu State.

Speaking to newsmen at the end of the meeting, the leaders of both groups revealed that the step was taken in order to enable them embark on a “sensitization tour of all livestock and perishable goods markets and every Fulani settlement in Enugu State between Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15, 2019”.

They further explained that, “during the sensitization exercise all livestock and perishable goods market will be closed down, either in cattle markets, Fulani settlements, or wherever they exist throughout Enugu State”, as they added that they have put together a 14-man committee for the programme for the purpose of identifying their true members while weeding out the infiltrators.

The Northerners led by Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the South East Chairman of MACBAN, and Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo, the Sarkin Hausawa, Enugu State, regretted the unfortunate incident which led to the death of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu of St. James The Greater Parish, Ugbawka in Nkanu East Local Government Area and said they were with his family and the entire people of the state in mourning with fortitude.

They revealed that they were committed towards the security situation in the state, saying: “In appreciation of the good gesture, which Enugu State has extended to us, we are prepared to join hands with the police, the military, and other security agencies in ensuring maximum security in our neighbourhood.”

The Northern leaders then went on to express their profound appreciation to the Enugu State Government for the peace which is in the state and which has helped their business.
