Two of the Governorship aspirants running on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Kogi State gubernatorial elections slated for November 26, have expressed concerns that the N30.8 billion bailout funds which was released to the state by the Federal Government will be misused by the state Governor, Yahaya for the purpose of vote-buying.
The funds which the Federal Government released earlier this month, was meant to pay the salaries and pensions of workers’.
The two gubernatorial candidates in the person of Dr. Victor Addoji and AVM Salihu Attawodi, pointed out that, such funds were not released to Capt. Idris Wada, the immediate past Governor of the State shortly before the 2015 election in the state over fears that he may use it for his re-election.
Both aspirants while speaking on Wednesday to newsmen in different interviews at the National Secretariat of the PDP, said that it was wrong to release such funds to Governor Bello at this time.
According to Adoji, “I don’t see that money going to be used for what it is allotted for in the first place. It is ill timed, it is improper and it is immoral.”
AVM Attawodi had as well, expressed the same concern as he promised that if he was elected, he would make sure that the security in the state was highly improved on as well as making sure there was human capital development.
Attawodi said, “The human capital development of the state is laughable because without the people, you will not have a state. I will also tackle education because education is power”.
Mohammed Shaibu Tette, another aspirant for the Governorship polls, made a pledge to bring his more than 20 years experience in the private sector to bear as the economy of the state would be turned around if he became Governor.
Attawodi went on to reveal that, he would clear the over 30-month salary arrears which current Governor, Yahaya Bello is owing state workers within a time space of 90 days upon assumption of office if elected.
