President Muhammadu Buhari has come under heavy criticism after he was quoted as saying that Nigeria’s will do her to stabilize Libya.
According to reports, the president made the pledge to the Head of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, at a bilateral meeting on the margins of the AU Summit in Niamey, Niger Republic, on Sunday.
President Buhari decried the situation where over 6,000 Nigerians are in Libya with the hope of crossing the Mediterranean to Europe.
He also noted that the humanitarian crisis arising from Libya’s instability has affected over 30 million people in the Lake Chad region who depend on the Lake for farming, fishing and animal husbandry. The drying up of Lake Chad has forced some Nigerians to defy the desert to make perilous journeys across the Mediterranean and the Sahara Desert to Europe.
But reacting, Nigerians have found that rather uncharitable. Some of them chided the president for pledging support outside while his “house is on fire”
“Charity begins at home” They say.

How can you think of saying, friend, let me help you get rid of the speck in your eye, when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? First, get rid of the log in your eye, then you’ll see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. Hypocritical!!!
