The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Adamawa State has condemned Senator Elisha Abbo’s attack on a helpless woman in a shop in Abuja following an argument. The party had however as well made a plea on Abbo’s behalf seeking for forgiveness, according to reports on DAILY POST.
The Senator who represents Adamawa North in the National Assembly and is a member of the PDP, on Wednesday held a press conference in the nation’s capital where he apologised in deep remorse. The PDP in Adamawa had on Thursday, also called its own press briefing in the state capital, Yola, where it begged Nigerians to accept his apologies.
The Chairman of the Adamawa State Chapter of the PDP, Barr. Tahir Shehu had during a press briefing at the secretariat of the party stated that the Senator should never have molested or degraded anyone, a woman for that matter, in public or even in private.
The PDP Chairman said that there was no acceptable reason that the Party could understand for the way the Senator acted and therefore distanced itself from the rash behaviour of the Senator.
However, the PDP pleaded with the assaulted lady and her immediate family members as well as Nigerians in general public to forgive the senator for his actions.
The PDP chairman stated, “We wish to state that every human being has the propensity to err. It is upon this premise that we call on the lady who was assaulted and her immediate family to forgive the senator.
“We equally plead with the generality of Nigerians and particularly the female folk to find space in their hearts to forfive him, moreso as he has rendered an unreserved apology to the lady in question and Nigerians.”
Shehu went on to state that the party supported the position taken by the Senate to carry out an investigation on the matter, but said that care must be taken so that it does not become a vendetta.
“It should not be used as a vendetta against Sen Elisha Ishaku Abbo as being clamoured by some interest groups,” he said.
