Senator Dino Melaye has vowed to liberate the people of Kogi as the state warms up for the November 16 2019 governorship election.
In a 2:21 minutes video posted on his YouTube channel, Dino, who has been described as a controversial lawmaker by some political observers said the time to speak is over, “It’s time to act.”
The Melaye’s new video came at a time Kogi chapter of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) reportedly denied endorsing Governor Yahaya Bello for a second term.
There are other reports that President Muhammadu Buhari refused to endorse the governor, who allegedly sent powerful Kogi traditional rulers to Aso Rock to plead on his behalf.
Melaye who was a former ally of the governor said the state was in a sorry state, “I may not know too much, but one thing I know that Kogi people deserve something better than what they have right now.”

” Dear indigenes residents and lovers of Kogi State, My name is Dino Melaye representing the people of Kogi West in the Nigeria Senate. I stand before you today not to declare my ambition to become the governor of Kogi state, but the ambition of people of Kogi state.
If it’s for me, I’ll simply keep calm and look the other way, but if I do so I’ll negate everything you have known me for. I can’t look away while poverty is ravaging our dear state as if we don’t have the resources to turn the fortune of the people of the state around.
How can I look away when violence, hooliganism, intimidation is fast becoming the order of the day. I can’t look away when the hope of an average person is being destroyed against the wish against the founding founder and patriotic fathers and mothers of Kogi state.
If I looked away, then I am not the Dino you’ve come to know. I have spoken so many times in the face danger, not for myself but for the man on the street.
Some of you know of my persecution and constant intimidation and endless harassment. All of these happen to me because I speak up for the common man.
The time to speak is over, it’s time to act and bring the people of this great state, the progress we’ve spoken about for too long.
I may not know too much, but one thing I know that Kogi people deserve something better than what they have right now.
If you feel the same, then this your ambition.
Let us rally round to change the sorry state we have become. This is the people’s agenda. Kogi state is definitely going to be better with Dino Melaye. So I ask all of you today to get ready, the next few months will see us sit together to plan how we want our state to be and what we want our state to become.
I want a better Kogi state, the question to you Kogites is: Do you want a better Kogi state? Together we can,”
At the time of this report, there are speculations that Governor Bello is planning to decamp to another party if he failed to secure the governorship ticket in APC.
Melaye is a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
