One of the most controversial ministers of President Buhari’s first term, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, who was head of the Ministry of Communication, has ruffled some feathers after saying that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of which he is a member of will not win the Presidential elections in 2023, according to reports by Inside Oyo.
The former Minister has said the chances of the party retaining the Presidency was null as long Adams Oshiomhole, the current National Chairman of the party, remain in charge of the affairs of the APC.
Shittu had made this assertion while addressing men of the press in Abuja, on Thursday. He further revealed that he had joined those who were calling for the APC Chairman to resign, due to the fact that Oshiomhole had displayed double standards during the party primaries before the 2019 elections which led to the loss of some state to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Oyo State-born politician further revealed that Abiola Ajimobi, the former Oyo State Governor and the current Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, were without NYSC certificates like him, but that they were not disqualified as he was from the governorship primaries.
“My fear now is that as of today, it is the personality of President Muhammadu Buhari that is galvanising the party together.
“I hate to see a situation by 2023 when Buhari is no more on the ballot, who again will bring us together into the electoral battle as one united front?
“Who has the love of our people and the commitment for Nigerians to vote for APC. I don’t see the APC winning with Oshiomhole in charge of the party. A lot of people will be driven out of the party by the time he continues with his injustices.
“Already, many people have been destroyed. It is very unfortunate,” Shittu said.
When quizzed on his reason for joining the league of those who wanted Oshiomhole to resign, the former minister had this to say:
“I am hard on him because he has come to destroy our party. How do you justify a national chairman who took over at the time the party controlled 26 States but we have lost about five to six states to the opposition,” he added.
