Fayemi Reveals Governors’ Take On State Police

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has revealed what transpired between President Muhammadu Buhari, state governors and security chiefs in Aso Rock as well as their take on the issue of State and local government police.

The President met with the governors and security chiefs today in Aso Rock apparently to discuss some security concerns.

According to reports, President Muhammadu Buhari received a report recommending the creation of State and Local Governments Police.

While briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, Governor Kayode Fayemi who is the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and also present Ekiti State Governor revealed that issues surrounding insecurity and creation of State police were discussed at the meeting.

On the issue of the creation of state police, Fayemi revealed that governors have not yet taken a position on the proposal.

He noted that while some governors had disclosed their desire to support such initiative, others were express concerns particularly as it regards the payment of salaries which they currently find difficult to do with the present state of their various domestic civil service.

A comprehensive National Economic Council (NEC) meeting will be held to address the issue of security Fayemi further disclosed.

“As security officers of their states, Governors briefed the President on situations in their domains.

“We are ready to join forces with the President to end the security challenges in the country.

On the $1billion earlier withdrawn from the excess crude account, Fayemi added that it must have been spent on securing the nation by the security agencies.
