Following the ongoing debate about politicians possessing the required educational qualifications to run for office, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari should not have contested the 2015 and 2019 Presidential elections in Nigeria because he clearly fell short of the required qualifications to run for such a post.
Kanu stated this during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Saturday, April 20 2019.
The broadcast focused on the state of the nation with a major emphasis on the political clime and antics/schemes of politicians hungry for power.
According to reports, the IPOB leader also reacted to a recent comment Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo made on the issue political eligibility and educational qualifications especially as it pertains to Buhari and why Buhari’s educational qualification(the lack of it) shouldn’t be questioned especially as they had legal backing.
Keyamo, who was the spokesperson of the 2019 Buhari Campaign Organization (BCM), had made the comment that an individual does not necessarily need a WAEC certificate to become president last Sunday when he appeared on Channels Television.
His words: “There are other levels of qualifications to run for the office of President. In fact, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, by the provisions of the constitution, you do not even need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.
“It becomes extremely foolish for anybody who is not statutorily empowered to issue WAEC certificates to come and challenge the body that has the statutory power to issue certificates,” he had said.
Reacting during a live broadcast which was monitored on Radio Biafra, Kanu said:
“The ignorant lawyer went on to say you don’t need WAEC certificate to become a president.
“This clearly unlearnable and quack senior advocate of Nigeria will end up as a judge in Nigeria,” he stated.
Kanu further adds: “I am stating tonight, write it down that Nnamdi Kanu said that the dead Buhari was not qualified to run for office.
“I want to prove tonight that the dead Buhari is not a Nigerian by birth and should not have contested the election in 2015.
“The fact that you were born in Katsina is not enough to be a Nigerian. Your father and grandfather must be a Nigerian for him to contest the election.
“Buhari’s parents were not born in Nigeria, therefore, Buhari, the late one should not have contested the election. Even the Buhari that contested and won the election against Jonathan in 2015 should not have contested the election.
“The dead Buhari was born in Niger Republic so if the dead Buhari was not qualified who is Jubril from Sudan to be qualified?” He asked.
