JAGABAN HAS SPOKEN, See What He Said About The Next Senate President That Will Replace Saraki

The National Assembly leadership is always been led by power struggle since time its inception.

Power struggle among the lawmakers in the house, struggle among politicians as well as struggle along party lines on the control of the National Assembly.

However, what is obtained is the use of precedence to give a decorum in the house using the notion of winner takes all.

The party which has the majority in the two chambers has always been the one that fills majority of the position within the house which  has been in practice since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in charge of the National Assembly since 1999.

But the shift of majority power to the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 also maintained the precedence of winner takes all.

However, the APC has been having tension within its ranks to decide the next candidates that will be fielded for the major leadership positions in the incoming 9th National Assembly.

It has even become a tale of survival of the fittest and who do you know within the party ranks as regards the endorsement of candidates for the position as well as power tussle among the lawmakers jostling for the leadership posts.

The current wave of accusations and counter accusation among the party ranks as caused the the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to disclose that party discipline would be upheld in addressing the leadership tussle of the 9th National Assembly.

Tinubu made he statement yesterday while speaking with newsmen in Lagos, after a Prayer Programme organised by Islamic and Christian clerics to mark his 67th birthday.

He was quoted saying: “Party discipline is key, we must be discipline in the party. We were a little careless in 2015. We created the opportunity for serpent to get into our party and that did not allow Nigeria to make the desired progress. You have seen the result of it and we are not going to allow that to happen again. We are going to respect our party and we are going to apply the whip.

“It is either you stay with us or you follow us or you leave. You have the freedom to choose but the freedom does not give you as a minority to go and collaborate and protrude our mandate given to you to another party who was our opposition and who is still our opposition. We would not take that this time, no matter who you think you are. That is how it is built. Why do you want to deviate from what has been structured? We look at our reward system equally, zone by zone,” he said.
