Election Tribunal grants Buhari big wish in Atiku’s petition to upturn presidential election

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has granted President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC the permission to inspect materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in conducting the February 23, 2019 presidential election.

Buhari and the APC had asked the tribunal for permission, stating it needed to inspect the materials so it could defend itself.

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar had approached the tribunal to challenge the results of the election in which President Buhari was declared winner.

The tribunal headed by Justice Abdu Aboki had granted Atiku a similar application to expect election materials March 6.

The application was granted to enable them to file their petition against the outcome of the poll.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahood Yakubu, who served as the Returning Officer for the election had declared President Buhari the winner of the polls.

Buhari had polled a total of 15,191,847 which represented 56% of the votes to defeat Atiku who scored 11,262,978, which was 41% of the total votes cast.
