According to report from Kano, the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Abba Kabir Yusuf is confident of victory in the gubernatorial rerun in the state scheduled for March 23.
During the gubernatorial election last weekend, Yusuf collected 1,014,474 votes, while Ganduje polled 987,819 votes. A total of 49,761 votes were rejected and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive.
Although, the Kano state Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje has expressed optimism of winning the rerun, words from his camp alleged that he is scared of the eventual outcome of the election while his opponent Kabir Yusuf is confident after receiving strong backing from party faithful that they will mobilise and troop out to ensure he wins.
Yusuf said: “We call on all supporters to remain calm. We are known to be peace lovers and so we shall remain, as we are very sure of victory during the rerun.
“Our supporters should not forget that PDP is already leading in the last count of the election and interestingly, the bye election would take place in the strongest areas of our party.”
On his part, Ganduje stated: “I salute voters especially for your decision to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). I saw their unflinching support for joining the long queues at their various polling units.
“ The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the 23rd of this Month (March) for rerun election in some identified polling units in the state.
“I’m using this medium to call on the electorate to come out en mass and vote for the ruling APC in an orderly manner. By the grace of Allah APC will emerge victorious after the rerun election. We are grateful to all. May we have peaceful conduct of this election.”
