A youth-based Southwest group, Igbimo Odo Yoruba, has replied Miyetti Allah Hore over the call for the arrest of former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Former Nigeria’s president added had his voice to the wave of insecurity in the country Monday, July 16, 2019 in a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari to take action before it is too late.
Obasanjo warned that Nigerians might resort to taking up arms to protect themselves if the government failed to make provision for adequate protection of lives and property.
Obasanjo had in the letter said Buhari has not done enough to adequately find a lasting solution to the incessant clash between local farmers and herdsmen.
Shortly after the letter dominated public discourse, Miyetti Allah Hore called for the arrest of the Yoruba politician.
In a letter, National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Hore, the Alhassan Saleh, said: “The fact that there is insecurity, I don’t think the Fulani are responsible for it. The narrative that we are responsible for the insecurity is even the problem we have with the Nigerian state.”
The group stated that Obasanjo should be arrested by security operatives for him to offer solutions to the security challenges, “The earlier they get him (Obasanjo) arrested and dealt with, according to the laws of the land, the better. He doesn’t mean well for the country.
But in a counter-reaction, the Igbimo Odo Yoruba through its Secretary-General, Olufemi Lawson, stated that the arrest of Obasanjo would be a recipe to violence.
The group which berated Miyetti Allah’s call, urged the former president to continue to put Buhari on his toes.
The letter read: “The Igbimo Odo Yoruba’s attention has been drawn to a media statement today, by a faction of the dreaded Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, calling on the Federal Government to arrest former President Olusegun Obasanjo, over comments made by him in his open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.”
The group said it is ridiculous for Miyetti Allah to make such call, “We strongly consider this ridiculous call by this faction of the notorious Miyetti Allah group as not only an insult but a joke taken too far by these characters, who have today become an organization of national security concern to the average Nigerian.
Igbimo Odo Yoruba also condemned the last ultimatum issued by the Coalition of Northern Group CNG on the implementation of RUGA settlement. “We want to liken the latest call for the arrest of former President Obasanjo to the infamous 30 days ultimatum issued by one of its surrogate organizations known as the Coalition of Northern Group CNG, over issues around the establishment of cattle colonies by the Buhari administration.”
The group warned the APC-led government of Buhari that there would be consequences if Obasanjo is arrested.
