It is no news again that Deeper life and the rules they give to people who choose to get married in their church is no child’s play. The rules come with heavy gravity and there is always a punishment to pay for it whenever any of the rule is broken .
It can be recalled that the wedding of Pastor Kumuyi’s son John to his wife became a controversial issue after the church as a whole stood up against the wedding and this attracted widespread condemnation.
His offence was that his bride wore a flowing white gown which is a shift from the traditional Deeper Life wedding dress and looked radiant at the wedding, her face dabbed with a touch of make up, including a lipstick. After knowing fully well that the church operates a strict regimen on ceremonies which outlaws even video coverage during nuptials.
He later publicly claimed to have realized the embarrassment he had caused the church, he apologized “profusely” during the mid-year celebration programme. He said “We unreservedly and wholeheartedly stated that we did not intend and do not intend that our act or omissions in any way undermine the great work that God has done through the Deeper Christian Life Ministry through our father, the General Superintendent,” read the letter of apology addressed to the church and read out to the entire congregation.
Just recently again, it was reported that some Nigerian couples planning to tie the knot in a deeper life church has been stopped from getting married because the groom and bride to be was caught eating from the same plate a week to their wedding.
Twitter user identified as @realoladele shared details of the strange incident on his twitter page. According to him, the couple were set to wed on June 8 and held their traditional wedding on June 7. During the course of the traditional wedding, they got a text saying that their wedding set to hold the next day had been suspended reason being that the two people were caught eating inside the same plate which the church saw as a sin.
Here is the story:
Lots of stories has emerged about wedding troubles especially from the deeper life church. Recently, a lady shared her friends story she said ” My friend got married in a deeper life church.
No make up, no earrings, they exchanged bibles and not rings, the wife covered her hair. Her wedding gown was like it once belonged to her granny. She endured all these assault. She only showed her true colour when they wouldn’t let her family into the church on grounds that they were too ‘flashy’. She told the husband in front of the pastor to call his church to order or the wedding was off! Her family must witness her wedding or no wedding at all.
The groom saw that she was serious and called to pastor aside, the family was then allowed to enter. The funniest part was after the wedding, she refused to snap any pictures. We no even know sey her sister brought her make up kit and jewelry, even a beautiful wedding gown was waiting in the car.
She just disappeared for like 30 mins and returned transformed. We all couldn’t believe our eyes! She said she was now ready to snap pictures. The pastor got angry and left. She no even mind. I later asked her why she did that. She said na husband she marry, she no marry church. Her husband knew about the plan.
He didn’t really approve but she made him know that dressing like her grandmother on her wedding will not make her a better wife in his house. And being beautiful and trendy will not make her the worst wife in his house.
My question is, are there issues with the wedding doctrines of Deeper Life church? Why do we have a lot of grievances on the part of Nigerian ladies with respect to the doctrines of Deeper life on weddings. If you were the bride and you were given commandments to follow being a member of a deeper life church, will you cancel your wedding because of this?
Have you been to a Deeper life wedding before, and you can relate to the above deeper life wedding pictures?
