Other than disagreements arising from childlessness and the usual ‘irreconcilable differences’, there is hardly any other thing that has wrecked marriages than infidelity. Defined simply as the action or state of being unfaithful to a spouse, infidelity is an act that is engaged in by both men and women. Even though it is widely believed that men are guiltier of this act, studies have shown that women are just as culpable as men, if not more.
According to sunnewsonline, infidelity amongst married women is on all time high. Many women are cheating on their partners these days. While some are already physically digging it, others will soon join the league. While some women cheat secretly, others are willing to admit they are cheating. There are a lot of reasons why women cheat on their husbands. These reasons could be sex, revenge, lack of emotional connection, boredom, peer pressure and so on.
In Nigeria, infidelity is known to be more prominent or common among men, but these days, it is becoming very rampant among the women. People who indulge in infidelity sometimes get lucky and never get caught, but as much as this happens, some others actually get unlucky and end up being caught in the act. It even gets worse for some people as it leads to something grave whereby one or the two partners end up losing their lives in the act.
This mostly happens in Africa. More often than not we hear of cases of people who engage in extra-marital lives losing their lives while having sex with their secret lovers. In Yoruba land, when such happens, they say the spouse of the woman cheating most likely cast a spell or used charm on her and that charm is referred to as ‘magun’. It is said that if a man uses this ‘magun’ on his wife and she sleeps with someone else, the lover or both will die.
Similar things happen in other cultures and anyone who is caught in the act is liable to a very grievous punishment, whereby it could lead to the death of the one found guilty. A similar case has occured in Plateau state whereby a 42 year old man, Gundumi Saya allegedly lured a married woman, Mrs. Hajara Markus out of her matrimonial home for s*x and she died while the duo were engaged in the illicit affair. Gundumi has since been remanded in Jos prison by the Plateau State High Court for allegedly killing Mrs. Hajara during s*x. He confessed to have been having secret s*xual relations with the woman before and after she got married to her husband.
