Disaster struck in Benue recently after a gas explosion claimed the lives of 2 university students. The incident occurred on Monday, 29th April at Bolek fueling station, opposite the institution’s College of Health Sciences.
The yet to be identified students gave up the ghost after sustaining serious injuries as a direct effect of the explosion. According to a source who narrated the ordeal, this explosion is one of the several incidents that have claimed the lives of students of the school this semester.
Meanwhile, as fire incidents ravage through homes, towns and cities, another disturbing trend among undergraduates in Nigerian University has been a cause for worry. A significant number of suicide cases among students have been recorded so far and Nigerians are concerned. Just last week, about 3 students committed suicide due to poor academic performance. Another lady, a student of the University of PortHacourt took her own life because of an undisclosed medical condition.
Parents and guardian are hereby called upon to show more love, care and level of understanding to their wards and reduce the rate at which they breathe down their neck on the need to achieve academic excellence like their counterparts. Comparison in no way helps as every individual is unique.
Also, all potential victims are advised to seek proper counselling to avoid the unimaginable.
