Onyekuru expresses happiness despite Monaco’s failure to win

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru, expressed his delight at playing a part in new team AS Monaco’s opening goal even though The Red and Whites ended up failing to get a first win of the Ligue 1 season in a 2-2 draw with Nimes.

Onyekuru made his second start since joining Monaco on a season-long loan from Everton and teed up fellow loan signing Slimani to give his team the lead before another new signing, Wissam Ben Yedder, who joined from Sevilla in a Β£38 million deal, doubled Monaco’s advantage on the stroke of half time.

However, Onyekuru and team-mates were helpless as Nimes were inspired by Zinedine Ferhat, who provided two assists for Romain Philippoteaux and Kevin Denkey, to help the away team secure a share of the spoils at the Stade Louis II on Sunday.

Despite the disappointing result which left Monaco with just one point after three matches in Ligue 1, Onyekuru stated he was happy to have played his part for the club during the game.

“Happy to contribute to our first point of the season. [Go] AS Monaco,” Onyekuru stated on social media after the match which saw the 22-year-old forward play 74 minutes before getting replaced by Jonathan Panzo.

Onyekuru will get the chance to help Monaco get a first win of the season before going on an international break when Monaco pay fellow strugglers, RC Strasbourg, on September 1 at the Stade de la Meinau.
